About David Shaywitz
David Shaywitz, MD PhD is a contributing writer for Timmerman Report.
Focus: the transformational opportunities and implementation challenges presented by emerging technologies in healthcare, biomedical discovery, and biopharmaceutical development, from NGS and cell therapies to digital biomarkers and the meaningful application of AI. Co-author (with Lisa Suennen): Tech Tonics: Can Passionate Entrepreneurs Heal Healthcare With Technology? (Hyperink Press, 2014).
Background: Drawing on two decades of biopharma experience, Dr. Shaywitz applies deep R&D expertise to guide and invest in the strategic adoption of emerging technologies to accelerate the discovery, development and delivery of impactful new therapies for patients.
Dr. Shaywitz’s career has centered on advancing pharmaceutical research by appreciating the transformative potential of nascent technologies while also recognizing the unique challenges of incorporating these technologies into complex biopharma environments. He has particular expertise in guiding promising technology and technology innovators through the complex scientific, cultural, and organizational landscape of biopharma.In addition to his writing for TR, Dr. Shaywitz is also a frequent speaker and writer on topics at the intersection of medicine, science, and innovation, and contributes book reviews regularly to the Wall Street Journal.
Dr. Shaywitz serves as a lecturer in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Harvard Medical School, is an advisor to the MS/MBA Biotechnology Life Science Program at Harvard GSAS/HBS, and is an Adjunct Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute.
