The TR Anniversary Party is coming up fast on Apr. 14, and I’m excited. You can look forward to top-notch industry networking, but also a short and lively program on the future of quality biotech journalism.
Rick Berke, executive editor, STAT
STAT executive editor Rick Berke, the guy spearheading an ambitious new venture in health science journalism, has agreed to join me for a fireside chat about what we are doing in the digital age at TR and STAT. Michael Gilman, the CEO of Cambridge, Mass.-based Padlock Therapeutics, has agreed to turn the tables on us and serve as the moderator.
This will be a rare chance for readers to ask us some probing questions about what we do, and how we are seeking to create sustainable business models for quality reporting. Rick, as some of you may know, attended the TR East Coast launch party last year. Based on our meeting there, we struck up a partnership to produce STAT’s Signal podcast, which I co-host with Meg Tirrell of CNBC.

One other special touch: I’ve invited a handful of grad students and postdocs from MIT to describe their research in 60 seconds. This is an opportunity for them to network with a high-powered biotech audience. It’s also an opportunity for you to put your finger on the pulse of some interesting ideas from the lab.
